A CHALLENGING ROUND AT IMOLA FOR VIGLIETTI

The third round of the 2025 Italian GT Sprint Championship took place on September 27–28 at the Autodromo Enzo e Dino Ferrari in Imola. It proved to be a difficult and frustrating weekend for Vittorio Viglietti, marked by unforeseen events and technical issues that heavily influenced the final outcome.

Competing in the GT Cup Pro-Am class aboard the Lamborghini Huracán Super Trofeo Evo II entered by DL Racing and shared with teammate Riccardo Ianniello, Viglietti faced a challenging qualifying session. A combination of technical problems and heavy traffic prevented him from fully expressing his potential, resulting in seventh place overall, a starting position that still kept the team within reach of the podium heading into the race.

Starting Race 1 from seventh on the grid, Viglietti’s opening stint was repeatedly neutralized by multiple safety car interventions, which made it impossible to carry out the planned recovery through the field. He managed to gain only a couple of positions before handing the car over to Ianniello. His teammate also ran part of his stint under safety car conditions, and the team eventually crossed the line in fifth place overall, limiting the damage and securing valuable points for the championship.

Race 2 initially offered a more promising scenario. Ianniello took the start and delivered a strong opening stint, allowing Viglietti to rejoin the race in second position. He successfully defended the position for several laps until an unexpected technical failure occurred on the exit of the Tosa corner, where the car suddenly shut down. With a competitor following closely behind, the loss of power resulted in a rear-end contact that effectively ended the race. Although Viglietti managed to restart the car and return to the pits, the damage sustained meant the car was no longer fit to continue, forcing retirement.

Reflecting on the weekend, Vittorio commented:
"Unfortunately, it was a weekend marked by disappointment and technical complications, which are part of motorsport and must be taken into account. We leave Imola knowing that our chances of fighting for the title are now slim, but we will give everything until the very end."

See you on track at Monza for the final round!
