Challenging Monza weekend brings Italian GT Sprint season to a close
The Autodromo Nazionale Monza hosted the final round of the 2026 Italian GT Sprint Championship from 9 to 11 October, with Vittorio Viglietti returning behind the wheel of the No. 22 Audi R8 LMS GT3 Evo II of Tresor Attempto Racing alongside teammate Marco Cassarà. After two class victories at Vallelunga and Mugello, the duo arrived at Monza still in contention for the AM championship despite having missed the opening round of the season.
Friday's free practice sessions marked the beginning of the weekend, with the team focusing on preparing the car for Saturday's qualifying sessions and races. However, it soon became clear that Monza would be a more challenging round than the previous ones, as they were struggling to find the same level of performance seen at Vallelunga and Mugello.
Attention then turned to Saturday's qualifying sessions, with Viglietti taking part in Q1 before Cassarà completed Q2. The team continued working on the car's setup ahead of the first race, scheduled for later that afternoon.
Race 1 saw Viglietti make a strong start, gaining several positions during the opening stages. Despite the positive opening laps, the No. 22 eventually crossed the finish line in P5 in the AM class, a result that fell short of expectations considering the championship ambitions heading into the weekend.
Sunday's Race 2 brought the 2026 Sprint season to an end. Viglietti and Cassarà managed to improve on Saturday's result, finishing P4 in class, although it was not enough to end the championship on the high note they had hoped for.
It was certainly not the ending the duo had hoped for, especially after arriving at Monza still in the championship fight. Nevertheless, looking back at the Sprint campaign, there are several positives to take away. With two class victories and another podium finish across Vallelunga and Mugello, Viglietti and Cassarà remained in contention for the AM title until the final round, despite having competed in one fewer race weekend than their rivals.
For Viglietti, the Sprint campaign also marked an important part of his first season competing in GT3 machinery, with the opportunity to fight for victories and gain experience alongside the team. With the Sprint season now concluded, Viglietti will turn his attention to the final round of the Italian GT Endurance Championship at Mugello, the last racing appointment of his 2026 season.
Big thanks to Tresor Attempto Racing and all the sponsors supporting this 2026 season for their continued trust and support.
See you at Mugello!
