The opening round of the Italian GT Endurance Championship took place from 8 to 10 May at Misano, marking an important new chapter in Vittorio Viglietti’s racing career. Competing aboard the No. 88 Audi R8 GT3 of Tresor Attempto Racing, shared with Alberto Di Folco and Alberto Clementi, Viglietti made his official debut in GT3, the top category for closed-wheel racing cars. It represented a major step forward compared to the previous season and further highlighted the progress made over the last few years.

Friday’s free practice sessions were mainly focused on setup work, as the team searched for the right balance on the technical Misano circuit. After a productive day of adjustments, the ideal compromise was found on Saturday morning during the third and final free practice session, giving the crew more confidence ahead of qualifying.

Qualifying took place on Saturday afternoon, with each driver completing a 15-minute session. At the end of the three sessions, the combined lap times determined the starting grid. Viglietti, Di Folco and Clementi secured a strong P13 overall and P5 in the Pro-Am class out of more than 50 cars on track, an excellent result in such a competitive field.

Sunday’s race consisted of three hours of action, with five mandatory pit stops and six different 30-minute stints. Just before the start, heavy rain hit the circuit, making the race wet from the very first lap and adding an extra layer of difficulty for all drivers.

Starting from P13 overall, the crew immediately showed strong pace and recovered several positions during the opening two stints, fighting close to the podium places. Unfortunately, a contact during a Safety Car restart caused the No. 88 Audi to lose a significant number of positions. Despite the setback, the team did not give up and, over the following hour, managed to climb back through the field and return to the positions just outside the podium. The pace was excellent from all three drivers, especially in the mixed and changing conditions that developed throughout the race. However, with around 40 minutes remaining, a mechanical issue forced the car to retire, bringing an early end to a race that had shown great potential.

Although the retirement was a disappointing end to the weekend, the Misano round confirmed the competitiveness of Viglietti, his teammates and the Tresor Attempto Racing package. In motorsport, setbacks are part of the game, but the most important aspect was proving that the pace to fight at the front was there.

The drivers will return to the track even more determined for the next round of the Italian GT Endurance Championship, scheduled from 19 to 21 June at Monza.

See you on track for the next race at Monza!
