RAINY MUGELLO FINALE BRINGS 2026 GT3 SEASON TO A CLOSE
The Mugello Circuit hosted the fourth and final round of the 2026 Italian GT Endurance Championship from 30 October to 1 November, with Vittorio Viglietti returning behind the wheel of the No. 22 Audi R8 LMS GT3 Evo II of Tresor Attempto Racing, alongside teammates Marco Cassarà and Sebastian Øgaard. The weekend also marked the final racing appointment of Viglietti's first season competing in GT3 machinery.
The weekend began on Friday with three free practice sessions, allowing the team to work on the car's setup and prepare for Saturday's qualifying sessions. Qualifying brought encouraging results, with Viglietti setting the fastest time in the AM class in his session. Combined with the times of Cassarà and Øgaard, the trio secured P3 in class on the starting grid for Sunday's three-hour race.
However, Sunday's conditions were completely different from those experienced during the previous two days. Heavy rain fell continuously throughout the race, making the Mugello Circuit extremely challenging and turning the final round of the championship into one of the most unpredictable races of the season. With several Safety Car and Full Course Yellow deployments and numerous retirements caused by accidents and cars going off track, simply reaching the chequered flag became a challenge in itself.
Cassarà took the start of the race before handing the car over to Viglietti for the second stint. Despite the difficult conditions and the constant interruptions, the No. 22 crew managed to stay out of trouble and complete the entire three hours without making any mistakes.
Unfortunately, an unlucky Safety Car deployment cost the team an entire lap, significantly compromising their chances of fighting for a stronger result. The trio eventually crossed the finish line in P5 in the AM class, a disappointing outcome considering the promising qualifying performance.
Nevertheless, the race provided Viglietti with valuable experience in extremely demanding wet conditions, something that will certainly prove useful in the future. After a particularly unlucky Endurance campaign, marked by incidents and technical problems across the previous rounds, bringing the car home without any damage was at least a positive way to finish the season.
The Mugello weekend officially brings the 2026 racing season to an end. This first year in GT3 has been one of mixed fortunes, with two AM class victories in the Italian GT Sprint Championship at Vallelunga and Mugello, alongside a much more challenging Endurance campaign.
Despite the difficulties, the season has provided plenty of experience and important lessons, with Viglietti already looking ahead to what 2027 might bring.
A big thank you to Tresor Attempto Racing, teammates Marco Cassarà and Sebastian Øgaard, and all the sponsors and partners who have supported the entire 2026 season.
Stay tuned for 2027!
